I also paddle a Loon 138. I secure dry bags behind the seat by clipping
them to a strap I've passed through the bars that hold the seat. This is
good for things I don't need very often.

Just last weekend I installed a set of deck rigging on the back deck  of
the boat (it came with deck rigging on the front). Having now overcome my
initial reluctance to drill holes in my boat ("But won't it sink?"), I am
thinking of installing some kind of loops on the _inside_ front deck, to
which gear bags could be clipped.

I tried keeping things I think I'll need during an ordinary paddle on the
front deck. I have a fairly decent deck bag that holds a water bottle,
lunch, a map in a see-thru pocket, and a camera if I decide to carry one.
