Generally I avoid hi-tech/semi-sponsored expedition reports. This was cross
posted on rpb and uk.boats ng's. Billed as: Trans Global Sea Kayak
Expedition. A sea kayak journey from Great Britain to Australia.

http://www.tgseakay.dircon.co.uk/contents.htm I finished reading the
first leg of their trip, laughing. They have far more patience and ability
to deal with bureaucracy, adversity, and crummy luck, than I will ever
muster. (They also have a better sense of humor !!!)

I am not sure if it's OK to post an url for something like this on
Paddlewise....BUT , if you find this report as well written and as
fascinating as I did, perhaps it will be forgiven.

The homepage and background info is at:
http://www.tgseakay.dircon.co.uk/main1.htm . And as a disclaimer, I have
nothing to do with this venture. I was unaware that Europe even had
non-bottled water.

I think it's not only OK, but I'll bet most here would agree we
appreciate being pointed to such stories. :-)

Thanks, Rich.

Thanks for the post and URL! On the mark for this list IMHO. What a
tremendous undertaking. An incredible journey to be a "part of"-- even if
from afar! Will look forward to reading about their progress in the months
[and years] ahead!

Godspeed to Trys and Bob! And happy paddlin' to all!

Personally I found it interesting to see how much experience they have.
More enthusiasm than experience? There were two things I noticed, no trolly
- something I always take if there are only two of us. And why did they
keep hitting the side of the tunnel while towing? Or don't they know how to
tow while walking beside a boat?

Sounds like they have taken to the sea late in life ;-)

Should make an interesting tale.

I read their comments about it being "found that zebra stripes on boat hulls
repel sharks" so I took it to mean they painted zebra stripes on the bottom
of their boats.

I have never heard of this.

However, I am aware of tests that were conducted using black and white
stripes on dive suits because some sharks are afraid of sea snakes (which
are black and white striped and poisonous). However, they were not aware
that some sharks actually eat sea snakes and the black/white striped dive
suits were a failure (though nobody got eaten, the dive suits did not scare
the sharks).

Yup :-) Especially if they decide to use that gun on a mad crocodile.
