Everybody, Help!
I am contemplating the purchase of a GPS unit to use with my kayak. Please
let me know your experiences and recommendations; brand, PRICE, etc. Thanks.

We've been through this before, but I recommend a Garmin GPS unit if
for no other reason than there is more freeware and shareware available
on the Web for the Garmins than for any other brand of GPS unit. The
Garmin GPS 12 and 12XL are both good units. They are similar except that
the 12XL can hold more waypoints, has a built-in database of cities, has
an audible beep, and comes with a case. The GPS 12 is about $140 and the
GPS 12XL is now about $200, I think. The GPS 12CX has color screens and
a longer battery life than the other two; I think it is about $250. The
Garmins are partly waterproof, by which I mean that though the
electronics are well sealed, the battery compartment is not. I carry my
12XL in a waterproof pouch, which also provides flotation.
