I will follow up from David's note. I travel to Vancouver BC on occasion where kayaks are a very hot commodity. My front rack is a lockable Yakima rack but because of the weird configuration of the canopy on my truck the rear rack is a very effective home-made wooden construction. I also have a lockable Yakima cable that feeds through the kayak seat and around the locked front rack. Hopefully just the appearance of the cable and locked rack will make the bad guys go elsewhere. But like anything else if they really want it they will take it.
