One end consists of a loop which is tied between two screw eye bolts. The other end also has two screw eye bolts but the loop can be lowered. I carry the canoe down over my head and place one end in the permanent loop. I can set the other end down and pull the rope on this end around the boat, up through the eye and then hoist the boat up until it is level with the other loop. I tie this end off with a "trucker's knot" which permits me to adjust the tension. This can be done alone, but is easier with two people. BTW- the boat hangs under a deck and is protected from weather, UV, etc. and is totally out of the way. Hope this helps you. I think the trucker's knot is illustrated in Cliff Jacobson's book on Wilderness Canoeing. I used it exclusively for tying boats on roof racks for years until I discovered cam straps. I still use the knot for attaching end ropes to my truck when hauling canoes or my sea kayak. Good luck with your storage Walt Chudleigh Park City, UT *************************************************************************** PaddleWise Paddling Mailing List Submissions: paddlewise_at_lists.intelenet.net Subscriptions: paddlewise-request_at_lists.intelenet.net Website: http://www.paddlewise.net/ ***************************************************************************Received on Thu Jul 15 1999 - 19:05:13 PDT
