I am interested in what all of you pw'sers where on your feet when you
paddle? I just blew out my teva's tonight walking long distance and now I
need to purchase another pair (or something similar, water sandal type
shoe). Is anybody crazy about something very specific on their sole's
while they paddle??? Please share... *

Neoprene slip on water mocks, they cost about $5.00 at Target or Wal-Mart
and last an entire year easy. Be careful, they can get pretty ripe, the
Mrs. makes me keep mine outdoors.

  overpriced.

As someone else mentioned the $5-$7 slip on water shoes available
at Kmart/Walmart work just fine. I've got a pair that I've used
for three years and they show no signs of blowing out.

I have two other pairs of paddling shoes that I also wear quite a
bit. My favorites are the NRS felt sole kickers. If
I am going to be paddling anyplace where I might be stepping
out onto slippery rocks I'll wear them. Flyfisher's (like me)
have been using felt soled boots for years for wading in streams
with slippery rocks. They retail for $37.95 (about half the
price of a Teva Universal Approach.

I also have a pair of what some call "water tennies" that I
believe are made by Tecnica. They lace up like a normal
tennis shoe but are "hyrdrophobic" (can't absorb water). I
use them whenever I'm getting in and out of the water a
lot, like when I'm helping out a friend of mine with boat
rentals. I probably wouldn't have bought them but I found
a pair on sale for $30.

Third the notion -- the cheak K-Mark wet boots are about all I use in the
boat; I have an oversized pair to wear over neoprene wet socks, too.
They're all rubber and nylon, so when they get wet they don't get very wet
and dry out quickly. These cheap things will last about forever, but at
least in this neck of the woods you'd better be grabbing them, since
they're on sale and will soon probably disappear until next spring.

The only down side is that they're not very good for walking. I had to do a
couple of miles in the K-mart boat shoes, when I'd forgotten to take a pair
of regular shoes on an island visit, and wound up with the worst set of
blisters I've had in ten years. I don't find them very good for walking any
distance at all.
