Happy Dog rides on the stern deck, both white water and flat. She prefers flat
and wears a PFD of course. In cold water, she also dons a wet suit. In very
cold conditions, she rides in the cockpit. I've considered making a sprayskirt
with a velcro window so she can look out under those conditions. We just
returned from another 4 days on the Missouri River in Montana. mmmmmmmmmmm, I
wanna go baaaack! I will, I usually make Montana once a year, Lake Powell once
a year, this year the Rio Grande (Big Bend) was a bust though--not enough
water. I'll try that one again this winter...

P.S. Hey, Jackie, how many pups are you taking along these days? When the
water gets a little rough, Happy gets antsy initially. I've thought about
getting another pup but at about 30 pounds a pop, weight and balance gets
interesting. How are you solving it??

P.P.S. I *think* I got a boater to take some pictures of us but haven't
developed them yet. I'll e them to you off line when I get them back. I'm not
sure the boater got the flick on what I wanted though he took _18_ pictures. I
told him I wanted pics of the dog on the boat but I am afraid they will all be
of me. I *knew* I should have worn more clothes... :-) Anyway I'll see what I
get and if I have anything, I'll pass them along. It sure is beautiful country,
you guys need to come along next year!

If you haven't seen the GASP "Paddling Pooches Gallery" page lately,
there's a picture on there of a little dog called "Bean Dog" wearing a
wetsuit. Check it out. Really cute photo. Her paddling companion is
Mike Calwell, president of the Kansas Canoe Association.

Three 8-} But that's in two boats. I'll try to have pictures ready soon.

I let Bob paddle with two of them :-)

Actually, Hallie and Mollie ride together in the same bucket... total weight
is less than 30 lbs.

Great! If anyone would like to contribute to the "Paddling Pooches Gallery"
please send me your photo(s) and I'll put them up for all to enjoy :-)
If you have a story to add, I can link the photo to your story.

Cheers,

Jackie

The latest issue of, I most be getting old since I forgot the name of the
newsletter, Atlantic Coast Kayaking?, just had an article about kayaking with a
dog. Very funny. I read almost the whole issue from cover to cover so you
would think I could remember the name of the newsletter!

This was a good article for those of us who have large dogs, 80+ pounds. Kelly
the K9 ain't gonna fit in a basket! 8-)

I'm not so sure about this list anymore, we have gone from In Depth Boat/Ship
Design arguments to how to Pee in a boat and now we have gone to the dogs!

8-)

Gotta love it!

Later....

A few years back in the Gulf Islands I watched bemused as a plastic double
landed at the beach we were camping at. Its decks were practically awash
from the weight of the 12 volt batteries that powered the electric trolling
motor (the female half of the couple loved kayaking but not paddling!) so
that the unit looked from a distance like those "Chariot" manned torpedos
used in WWII. Completing the effect was one of those water ski tow rings
being towed behind, with a dog standing nochalantly in it (he had a PFD as
well), obviously perfectly accustomed to traveling in this manner.
