Dan et al,

| Just checked the can of pepper spray that lives in the day pack that I
|carry all the time (other contents are first aid kit, knife, matches,
|camera, 50 feet of line, etc - I'm just that kind of guy <g>). 165 grams
|total, 15% oleoresin capsicum. The can ejects totally in about 10 seconds
|and has a maximum effective range of 10 feet.

Wow, a max effective range of 10 feet seems almost useless. Better than nothing
I suppose. Pepper take a second or two to whack you. A person much less than a
bear can cover 10 feet before the pepper has an effect. The can most be a fog.

I have seen some video of sprays that went out a decent distance. Sounds like
the
user is going to get nuked with pepper! 165 grams is alot of spray especially
within 10 feet.

I would be curious as how the manufactuers decided to use 15% pepper. Likely
just
marketing.

Agree 100% with everything else you said.

The collegs are starting up again here in North Carolina. A woman was attacked
a couple of days ago at UNC in Chapel Hill but fought off the scum bag with the
help of two friends. The three had been walking togather and then two went one
way and the other went by herself to her dorm. The guy had seen them moments
before and went after the lone woman. She fought him and made a lot of noise.
Her friends came back and the three of them scared the %^&*( away. He has not
been caught which is badness. Last night a woman was attacked at NC State in
Raleigh. She maced him and sent him on his way.

Bears are not really the ones that need to be concerned about.

Later....
Dan McCarty
