My experience is finding them broken about 6" from the hook. I can
always use another S-hook. I don't think the truckers use them to fasten
loads to the truck as much as to tie down the tarp over the load, at a
rate of 1 bungie/4 feet or so.

My boats are fastened to the rack with NRS straps or 4mm accessory cord.
