Just to peg down the other end of the scale allow me to un-recommend the Chevy
Astro/GMC Safari:

*too tall

*no gutters

*can't position bracketry/bars close enough to the rear to prevent contact
between boat and paint when loading with "Sweet Rolls"

*must drill holes to get "decent" attachment to roof/bar spread

*"decent" attachment to roof allows for significant vertical flex of bars/boat

*won't fit in standard garage with bars attached ...

Need I go on?

Fortunately the vehicle has virtues in other areas.

Hi,

Just a comment on the "problems" with the Astro. These also apply to
the Ford Explorer (I don't have a problem with the attachment).

The way I set up my "Sweet Rolls" (actually bought the cradles before
the rollers were available and then bought rollers), was to put the
rollers in the front where I was able to get the bar at the end of the
vehicle (well, then end of the roof, anyway).

I was concerned about this setup with not having as stable of contact in
the front but this seems to work fine, I haven't taken it more than
about 150 miles at a time, but 100 of that was freeway (in Michigan that
is 75-80 or get run over).
