There's been some discussion recently about Pygmy's Artic Tern and Coho, but
I've been wondering whether anyone out there has had experience
building/paddling either the Goldeneye STD or the Osprey STD. At 15'8",
that's about as much boat as I want. Any feedback on these models?

I built an Osprey Std two years ago -- and use it as my "day" boat. Very
light, quick, and fun boat. I weigh 220, so there is not a lot of cargo
capacity left for extended trips, though I have used it on overnights.
Believe these two have the same hull, and only differ in the deck: the O has
more panels, giving a more aesthetic look, and making for a little more
clearance for the hands when paddling.

Pygmy's kits are first rate, though a first-time builder, unless she is VERY
careful, will run out of resin. I did not, because I borrowed a triple beam
balance from the lab and was able to weigh out right-size batches of resin
(easier than it sounds), minimizing wastage.

At 38 lbs, the boat is a delight to cartop and lug to the beach. You will
also get a lot of admiring comments from the rich tones of the wood -- the
epoxy really brings out the grain patterns.

I'd build a fleet if I could!

BTW, the Arctic Tern is the "hot" boat from Pygmy right now -- others on the
list can tell you why they like it over the O or the G.

Build one -- you will like it!

You might want to ask if Pygmy has started selling the new Arctic Tern
14'. I know that the prototypes exists, but I have learned if they are for
sale yet. It might be the perfect boat for you.
Cheers,
kevin
