A question concerning bow and stern tie down to those who car top multiple
kayaks. Do y'all use a single rope threaded through all kayaks which is then
lashed to vehicle from the bow and stern? Is a single rope used on the bow
and stern for each individual kayak which is then lashed to the vehicle?

We routinely carry two kayaks on top of our car. Each boat has its own
bow line and stern line which run under the car bumpers and are attached
to the frame of the car.

I use individual bow & stern tie downs for up to three kayaks/canoes. The
only times I've had more boats than that on top have been for relatively
short shuttle runs on basically untrafficed (how's that for a word?) roads.
With three bow tie downs there are a lot of lines in the driver's field of
view. I feel safer with each boat fastened to the rack and the truck
individually......but I'm one of those anal retentive types.<grin>

i usually run one or two lines through all the bow & stern loops. it
depends on how many boats, and how far ;-) for any distance, i like to
have belts and suspenders ;-) for a short vehicle shuttle, just the "belly
bands" otherwise bow and stern lines as well. if the boats [so far max is
5 plastic boats on my subaru] ends are close together, i'll just use on
rope, but would reall prefer one rope per boat, but it usually doesn't end
up that convenient!!

Arthur,

I carry two sea kayaks on the roof of a Dodge Caravan with the saddles
fore/rollers aft combination. I use separate bow and stern tie downs for
each boat.
