I have to agree with Doug about Chris Duff's "Round Ireland" show. I
caught it at the symposium a couple of years ago, and it was one of the
best presentations I'd ever seen. Seems like he mentioned turning it into a
show for public television, or a book. Does anyone know about that?

The Book if "On Celtic Tides," published by St. Martin's Press, August,
1999 (usual disclaimer). Chris writes as well as he speaks. Some of his
pictures are included. Even though they're black & white, they're quite
wonderful.

RE: Chris Duff's circumnavigation of Ireland, 1996 - The book is now
available, title "On Celtic Tides" ISBN #0-312-205089. I saw his presentation
at the LL Bean kayak symposium last July, and bought the book there.

Even for those who have heard the talk and seen the slides, the book is
fascinating, and adds significantly to the whole story. It also gives some
further insight into Chris' spiritual connection to the paddling, to the sea,
and to Ireland.

The descriptions of the sea and the weather, the paddling difficulties, are
the best-written parts of his story, in my opinion. While I wouldn't consider
it one of the best books I've ever read, it is one of the best *travelogues*
I've read. I think anyone who has an interest in paddling, and many who don't
share that interest, will enjoy the book tremendously.

Can someone compare this book with "Dances with Waves" by Brian Wilson? I
just finished "Dances with Waves" and am curious how they compare, since
they are so similar in subject matter.

Thanks to whoever it was on the list who recommended "Dances with Waves", I
*really* enjoyed it!
