I carry all 3, a GPS, a deck mounted compass, and a handheld compass in my PFD
pocket. I think the combination compass would be great but don't stop carrying
one because you have a GPS. The GPS will not tell compass directions unless
you are moving, batteries burn out, and even though they are submersible many
of the battery compartments are not. How that works is beyond my
comprehension---I carry mine in a clear drybag and it works just great inside
of it.
