The straight answer --- 'cause I can't think of anything clever --- is that "plaing" in "plain" miswritten, and "S&G" is stitch and glue, a technique for building boats from thin plywood panels; the panels are stitched up with pieces of copper wire (or other materials) and glued together with epoxy.
