Ok, Ralph, I acknowledge that you have a cool boat carrying vehicle. I also would like to recognize that over the last couple years on this list I have heard some crazy stories of boat carrying ability. Care to make it interesting? I would like to see images of these kayak/canoe hauling monstrosities that the many previous posts have been describing. Maybe an informal competition of how many boats can your car reasonably carry. I suppose there ought to be rules governing the most overburdened vehicle. Kind of like the "rules" that governed the people who stuffed themselves into phone booths and VW bugs. We could post pictures on a separate site with every Paddlewiser getting one vote to throw at their boat of choice. My suggestions include: No bagged boats. - All must be in full view of impartial judges. Everyone knows that Ralph would thoroughly squish us with a dozen folders stored under th e seats of some van. We have to play fair. If you are going to carry a boat, you must have a passenger for it stuffed in the cars' cockpit, I mean passenger area, or whatever. This will limit most pickup owners to something like 3,4 or 8 with a crewcab. Just so we aren't seeing flatbed pickups hauling 40 little whitewater boats. The picture on the back of the NRS catalog comes to mind. Maybe some measurement like a boat to car weight ratio? (full tank) All persons limbs must be inside the car. My father has an electrical company and often uses a huge school bus to haul his electricians from site to site, it seats 60 and has a big full length rack on top. Getting the local kayak club together would be a cinch. - But in fairness, I automatically exclude myself from using it. (That would be sooo cool!) Should we mandate bow-stern lines? (I hate to bring that up again.) This could be really fun. The owner could have bragging rights placed right square in the the signature following their posts. Something like "Laydeeeesss and Gentlemen, Theeee undisputed heavyweight boat hauling champeeen of the world!!!! What do you think Paddlewisers? Care to show your portage vehicle?
