G'Day,

I'm breaking my own rule and putting an example of the entry format below so
people know roughly what an entry will look like!

Note all entries are optional. You can include or leave out whatever you
like!

Note I haven't put my address or telephone number in or given much
indication of how many kayaks I own but you can see what I like paddling!
Some people may prefer not to put in any contact information! Jackie and I
are working out if email addresses can be encoded to be accessible to
Paddlewisers only.

i) BIO: I'm a tall skinny guy, 51 years old, married in '72 and came to
Australia from England in '74. I visit the USA and England quite frequently.
Started Paddling about a year ago, Got heaps to learn and thats one of the
reasons I love paddling! Two biggest events of my working life were building
an experiment for the Space Shuttle years and years ago and helping to get a
rather cute biosensor to work. I paddled my first boat when I was 10 years
old, it was two planks of wood supported loosely (no glue, nails or string!)
on two blocks of wood and paddled with a long iron bar on a pond in Sussex.
(But I was born and raised in the east end of London).

------------------------------------------------------------

All the best, PeterO

b)CONTACT: dkruger_at_pacifier.com (Astoria, OR, USA: mouth of the Columbia
River)

 c) BOATS: Eddyline Wind Dancer and Sea Star; Pygmy Osprey Std; Folbot

 e) SPECIAL INTERESTS: Foldables, Sea kayaking, wilderness, materials science
(amateur)

 f) SPECIALIST KNOWLEDGE: long time organic chemist and long time chemistry
teacher, focusing on transitioning my students from concrete to formal
operational mode of thinking (Piagetian model, if you have to ask)

 g) STRONG OPINIONS: Don't believe in back or white solutions or answers to
most real questions.

 h) MOST INTERESTING TRIP: Several: Couple in the Charlottes -- favor the
south end of Moresby Island; downriver sorties from Portland OR to Astoria
OR; coast of Baja south of Loreto.

 i) BIO: 55-year old very chunky guy, strength-limited by tendonitis in my
wrists (let this be a lesson to all the rest of you paddlejocks!). Came to
sea kayaking from a mountaineering background (20 years in the Pacific
Northwest -- mostly glacier work and alpine routes in the Cascades of WA, with
a few routes in Wyoming; some guiding; some winter climbs). Had to give up
backpacking, XC sking and climbing due to knee problems. Eventually gave up
mt. biking for the same reason. Been very active as a sea kayaker since early
1992, with a strong focus on multiday trips on the west coast of Vancouver
Island and in the Charlottes. Most of my "home" paddling is on the Lower
Columbia River, a sensitive and wild area characterized by strong tidal
influence and great habitat for waterfowl -- yet with a rich history of use of
the River by mankind. Strongly committed to meaningful resolution of use
issues in wild areas: practical restrictions and cooperative solutions with
landowners and other stakeholders, reflected in community work. Been teaching
chemistry at a small community college here since 1973. Have done research,
both applied and theoretical. Made a stitch and glue yak, and want to make
another. Great wilderness stir fry cook, and handy with tools.

Divorced, with a 26-year-old son who lives in CO. Live with a long-time
partner who celebrates her 50th this week!

Grew up in SoCal, and was an active surfer and body surfer in my teen years,
mostly in overhead stuff and smaller.

OK, here is a Dutch bio:

KEY WORDS:
Foldable, Sea Kayaking, viola, recumbent bikes

NAME: Merijn Wijnen

CONTACT: merijn_at_music.demon.nl, Homepage: www.music.demon.nl

BOATS paddled
Various combi's (years ago), a Pouch double foldable
(my parent's, 20 years ago), Aquaterra Sea Lion.
Now looking for a foldable, and still doubting between a
Feathercraft Khat S and a K1...(any help will be appreciated)

BOAT NAME & CALL SIGN (IF RADIO OPERATOR)
Not yet applicable, but I will study for a licence

SPECIAL INTERESTS:
Foldables, (Sea) kayaking, playing viola, travelling, designing
building and riding recumbent bicycles and model aeroplanes (not
riding the latter, of course).

SPECIALIST KNOWLEDGE: physics, math, viola playing, making things

STRONG OPINIONS: You shouln't have one, first listen....

MOST INTERESTING TRIP:
By kayak: Last summer I took a course and did two weeks
cruising in Greece, near Skiathos. It was also my first real trip, and
it defenitely converted me to sea kayaking (my girlfriend says I
hardly talk about something else since)
By bike:Help, I can't decide, all of my many miles were great.

BIO:
I must be one of the younger ones here, being 31. I live in a rather
waterless part of a very water-rich country. Currently employed as
a physicist / designer I a product development institute (designing
complex electro-mechanical apparatus)
Before taking up paddling I have been heavily involved in recumbent
bicycles. I build a couple of them (ehh, 8 really), and have ridden
them al over Europe, and a bit in Australia. Cycling hollidays give
the same kind of freedom as kayak touring: I love the feeling of
being totally selfsupporting.
Also I love going travelling, seeing sights and tasting other cultures.
In december I will go to Australia 6 weeks, and hope to do some
paddling there (here again: tips welcome).
One of the far away project is designing and building a sea kayak,
but that has to wait until I can find enough indoor space to build a
5.5 meter boat.
