Did the person who interviewed the high wire artist think to ask if there is a different pay scale associated with working without a net? Lots of things can shift our perception of proper safety. How about our perception of how fast weather can change? How many folks who think they have assessed the probabilities of risk are fully aware of how fast the weather can change in the area they are paddling? I don't mean to be rude, but you have to wonder if paddlers from Southern CA have any idea how fast weather can change. I would be interested to hear about places where the weather can change rapidly. For my part, I would say to presume everywhere. But this could make you complacent. It's probably better to know which areas are particularly volitile.
