#12 -- chopped kayaks make great pulks and are a blast on the
downhills.

You reminded me of an old dream of mine I've never gotten around to
implementing. Several years ago, the person I was winter camping with in
the BWCA got sick. Fortunately, she was able to ski out, but it got me
to thinking that it might be handy -- maybe even lifesaving -- to have a
pulk large enough to carry a sick or injured person. Now, if you had a
pulk that large, there are other things you could do with it. My idea
was to make a cover for it that would in effect turn it into a mobile
bivy bed. The idea is to use the pulk to carry your camping gear into
the wilderness. Then, when you make camp for the night, you take out
most of the gear, lay out your Thermarest and sleeping bag in it, and
turn the pulk into a bed. I even thought of making removable layers of
insulation for the pulk cover for colder nights.

Unfortunately, my current pulk is not quite long enough, and I have
other projucts to work on -- such as finishing remodeling the kitchen.
:-(
