Dear Ed (and anyone else interested)

Chesapeake's are great plans/yaks, good luck on your homebuilt.

"I want to glass the coaming so that it will take more abuse"
I've never tried that (reasonable idea though). I poly the coamng fresh every
year on all my yaks. Full re-poly every two or three depending on use.

"Would one just glass the top?
Like to keep the weight down as much as possible so I only use cloth on the
hull.

"How about glassing the paddle blades?"
Bart Hauthaway does that and likes it. He also sometimes runs a light rope on
the edge and then glasses over that.

I'm fully into greenland paddles. Recently I took one of my earlier ones that
was heavy and block planed & sanded all the finish (epoxy and poly) off.
Sanded it up and used butchers wax as the finish. Feels really nice in the
hand and you get an excellent grip. I'll have a more developed opinion in a
month.
