Mark,
Embarassed to admit I didn't know the thickness of my wetsuit. After locating the bill of sale and looking it up in catalog, turns out to be 3mm. I am learning something from this discussion about wearing capilene or polypro underneath. Have never done that, but will give it a try. Beyond the farmer john, I usually cover top to adjust to air temp -- appropriate combination of synthetic underwear (outside wetsuit), fleece, and nylon windbreaker or gore-tex rain jacket. Do not have a neoprene jacket, but think that would be good in spring Lake Superior.

Comments on buying a wetsuit: Bought XL wetsuit (from catalog) that must have been sized for australopithecus afarensis, never could squeeze into it, sold cheap. Replaced with another brand XL that was just right. Best try on, sizes differ.

Also, opt for double zipper (zips from top AND bottom), as it makes relief possible without chilling removal of suit top. (I paid about $800 for a dry suit with a relief zipper because my old dry suit took seemingly forever to remove when desperation was mounting. Aside from warmth, this is the most essential consideration of any suit -- wet or dry -- and almost no price is too high. Lack of double zippers or relief zippers turns any suit into a torture device worse than thumb screws!

Thanks to Chuck for info on lake temperatures. I can apply your info to my experiences and will treasure your site references.

Rick
