We have owned three Stephenson tents over the years -- just bought a new 3RS for family backpacking and ski touring. Their great advantage is weight and the special materials Jack uses such as the silicone coated material that is mildew free and will not emulsify and is much stronger per weight than the urathane coated stuff. They are also huge inside. But for kayaking other tentage is probably preferable where weight is not a prime consideration. BTW Sandy et al, the original catalogue was a "fully revealing" document without any attempt to cover "certain" parts. Indeed, George was a common topic of discussion among female climber friends a number of years ago. George of course sewed very nice tents and I'm sure his in-the-buff appearances were only incidental in stimulating the discussions. This wondering if they are worth it: YES. We are all getting older and weight becomes evermore a problem. The resale on a used Stephenson tent, if you can find one, is exceptionally good as they are usually well cared for. Our main climbing tent in the Sierras for almost 10 years was a 2RS weighing an honest 3 lb. 2 oz dirty. Our new 3RS big enough for 4 weighs 4 lbs. 11 ozs. Happy tenting to all.. Richard G.
