Of course I'm not suggesting you dump them -- but surely there must be female paddlers or other outdoors types around. All my friends of either gender share at least one major interest with me; that's why they're friends. If you don't have a outdoors-related club around, we Pwisers who live the closest to you might start beating the bushes for a female paddling neighbor (?) Tell us again where you live.... e Elaine Harmon - eilidh_at_dc.seflin.org - eharmon_at_cs.miami.edu *************************************************************************** PaddleWise Paddling Mailing List - All postings copyright the author and not to be reproduced outside PaddleWise without author's permission Submissions: paddlewise_at_lists.intelenet.net Subscriptions: paddlewise-request_at_lists.intelenet.net Website: http://www.paddlewise.net/ ***************************************************************************

I'm not > so sure that it's a blatant stereotype.......and sometimes it gets lonely! > Yes, I have found it the same the last 30 years, although the numbers of women interested in outdoor activities, women's groups, etc, has been increasing. My husband's outdoor interests are very different from mine (discovered early in our relationship that backpacking to him was driving to a campground and setting up a tent, while to me it was a light backpack with just the essentials and 15 miles hiking to new sites every day) and it was a problem for a while. I finally just started doing things without him. Going with another man was out of the question, of course, and finding a woman friend interested was near impossible, so I usually went alone or not at all (I don't particularly like doing outdoor things with groups). With paddling, my husband is getting more interested now he's got a nice new boat, but he can take it or leave it. Now I'm getting older, would enjoy a bit of company... would love to find a woman friend (my age) with similar interests and abilities, but it is still difficult. Paddlewise women are a delight... hope you'll contact me if you come to the Pacific NW.
