I find it interesting that no one on this list has objected that the winter camping thread is off-topic, which I think demonstrates either the tolerance of Paddlewisers, especially those from warmer climes, or a fascination with the topic. FWIW, up here in the North Country many sea kayakers enjoy winter camping when the water turns hard. In fact, there seems to be a higher proportion of sea kayakers who winter camp than cross-country skiers who winter camp. As a member of both clubs, if I were to schedule a winter camping trip in the Boundary Waters this winter, I strongly suspect I would get as many participants from our 89-member Inland Sea Kayakers club as from the approximately 2000-member North Star Ski Touring Club. The key factor, I think, is an enjoyment of wilderness camping. Many cross-country skiers, though they enjoy being outdoors in winter, do not camp in any season, and most either ski on local trails or stay in lodges or motels on extended ski trips. In the North Star Ski Touring Club, Basil Loney and I were the only ones who ever led winter camping trips -- but Basil also is a sea kayaker!
