RE: [Paddlewise] Skeg Deployment

I lent my Nordkapp to someone who extended the skeg and then dumped it on
shore, skeg still extended.

The cable was bent and useless. I was able to find a replacement, though
slightly larger, cable at West Marine. It required re-drilling the hole in
the Skeg and slider but it seems a little stiffer the English (metric?)
cable.

The net result is that I will always carry a spare, pre cut cable on future
camping trips. The new cable is a bit smoother and more positive then the
original.

Subject: [Paddlewise] Skeg Deployment

Hello Paddle Wisers,

This post is directed to paddlers who have the new skeg
deployment lever which deploys the skeg via a wire cable.
This new skeg deployment system is found on the new P &
H Capellas and other newer sea kayaks that have skegs.
Caution has to be taken when deploying the skeg for if
the skeg is stuck or slightly jammed the cable may bend
if you end up applying too much force to it.

Good Paddling,
