Re: [Paddlewise] floatation vest

I am a fan of the Stormy Seas inflatable flotation vests originally created
for Alaskan commercial fishermen. They can be inflated instantly by pulling a
lanyard that activates a CO2 cartridge or inflated orally to any degree
desired.

My vest is excellent for paddling - short waist, large arm openings, you
forget you are wearing it when it's uninflated. It was designed to not get in
the way of work so those commercial fishermen would wear it.

Mine has three good sized pockets for carrying items plus a large "sleeve"
across the back you can stuff things into. I too carry emergency gear when
paddling and use a fanny pack rotated around in front - works well for me,
though like Rev. Bob I sometimes wonder if all this will really float. Just
kidding.

The Stormy Seas inflatable vests were not USCG approved last time I saw a
report on USCG approved inflatables. Does anyone know the latest? The overall
quality of the vests is excellent. They are tough and well made. I am using
my second one and could not be more pleased.
