I have. I reproduced this effect some years ago when someone complained of water leakage in the rear of a VCP boat. The round front hatch did not leak, but the oval rear hatch did. I set the boat out in the sun and let it heat up, poured water into the channel around the bade of the covers, then cooled the boat with a combination of shade and water from the garden hose. A very little water was sucked through the long sides of the oval hatch. I'm don't recall, but I think it only happened when the hatch cover was fully sealed onto the opening rim, but not fully pressed down into the deck recess (double-sealed). > For sure I've never seen a hatch cover pop off or completely > implode from this sort of thing. I've never seen this, but there was a mention of it having happened to someone in a letter to one of the paddling magazines once. The negative pressure can definitely make it much harder to remove the covers though.
