<I've never had a problem with bulging hatches on my Romany - but I always burp all of the hatches. My husband (who also has a Romany) does have bulging hatches. He doesn't usually burp his hatches. > Seems to me that would depend on whether air in the compartment could/would continue to expand or contract after the "burp". I'm sure I have seen hatches bulge or suck in after burping. For example - This happened day before yesterday - hatch covers sinking in, not bulging, this time. I'd been paddling in shallow water which was colder than air temp. Hatch covers sank in a bit. When it was convenient I touched land, got out, burped the hatches. Paddled some more, out in deeper water where water was apparently colder. Hatches sank in again. I'm sure no authority on this (or anything else), but I don't think I've ever seen water leak into a compartment as a result of VCP or KajakSport hatch covers sucking in or bulging, so the accounts of this happening have been of interest to me. For sure I've never seen a hatch cover pop off or ocmpletely implode from this sort of thing. As for transporting the boat with hatch covers on as a couple of people have related, I was taught that's not a good idea so I (almost) always remove the covers even for a "ride" of a few blocks.
