I hope you all had a great Holiday! I recieved a gift
certificate to the local Kayak shop and I want to buy
a new PFD and sprayskirt. I sea kayak mainly on the
Central California coast. I like the Lotus Rio Grande
pfd. As for sprayskirts, so far I like the kilt and
the snap dragon. I want to get a neoprene sprayskirt.
What are your opinions of the Lotus PFD and the kilt
and snap dragon skirts? Are there other skirts that
are better? Thanks for the info, Mike

I don't know about better, but I have a headwaters all neoprene skirt, and
its about as water tight as can be.

Mike

I own the Lotus Rio Grande and consider it an excellent PFD. I'm a 5'10",
195-pounder and the XL is a perfect fit. The only "problem" I've
experienced is that it tends to ride up just a bit while in the water.
Nothing beyond the norm in my opinion seeing as how I'm a bit on the stocky
side. [And, for the naysayers out there, I did "fit" it in accordance with
Lotus' directions at http://www.lotusdesigns.com/choose.html ] Bottom
line -- two years worth of both heavy touring and whitewater wear and it's
still in excellent condition.

For skirts, I like Perception's neoprene Grip Deck. Granted it's not an
adjustable model, but for anyone with who has a coaming with a low-clearance
problem, this skirt is a breeze to put on because it has no bungee knots
[the cord is completely enclosed]. Also, for me it scores an A in the
water-tight department.

Good luck!

I really like the MTI PFDs. I find them more comfortable and adjustable then
the Lotus, as well as better pockets and a lashing point on the rear
shoulder. They are use a heavy rip-stop type fabric.

As for skirts, I like the Palm neoprene touring skirt with the breathable
Gortexesque tunnel, a real plus here in South Florida.
