Looking for constructive criticisms of this idea for mounting a foot pump:

I've got an extra pair of Yakima foot pegs. I'm thinking of sliding them
onto the track just behind my regular foot pegs. Between the extra foot pegs
I'll hang some sort of crossbar (1x2?) and mount the pump on it. There will
need to be a slot on the crossbar or the extra foot pegs to account for the
tapered shape of my kayak so that the pegs can be moved to any location.
(allow the crossbar to slide slightly left and right)

1) By placing the extra pegs behind my normal foot pegs, the depth of the
pump should be taken care of, placing the plunger near the front of my
regular foot pegs.

2) It avoids drilling any holes other than for the pump exhaust port.

3) It could accommodate more paddlers than just me, since the pump and foot
pegs will all remain adjustable. (although probably won't work for paddlers
much taller than me)

4) As long as my crossbar is strong it eliminates the possibility of
compromising my bulkhead if pressing too hard on the pump.

As a possible alternative, I could build a stand off for the back of my
existing foot braces to attach a crossbar to. This would eliminate the need
for the second set of foot pegs, and make the whole shebang adjustable in
one operation.

Looking for the downsides!

Thanks in advance,

Woody
