Cow Patty Pageant Scheduled for Sunday, February 6

The Cow Patty Pageant will take place rain or shine (lightning or inclement
weather cancel) Sunday, February 6 at the Estero Americano on the
Marin/Sonoma County Line near Valley Ford. The whimsical spirit of this
12-mile paddle race can be viewed at the Bay Area Sea Kayakers’ website

The Estero has some tidal action, but barring high winds this is a flatwater
race for all classes of canoes and kayaks. The course always includes a
short footrace to the Cow Patty Shrine at the beach. Most years several
paddlers have also had to sprint through the mud, hauling their boats, when
they strayed from the deepest channels.
For all this cold messy fun the entry fee is $12 on the day of event.
The paddlers’ meeting is at 9 a.m.
If all falls into place, the race will be followed by a no-host pasta feast
in the nearby town of Occidental.

To reach the Estero Americano exit Highway 101 at Washington Blvd. West in
Petaluma. Continue west to Valley Ford; south on Valley Ford -
Estero/Franklin School Road (DiNucci’s Restaurant) to bridge. There are no
accommodations or drinking water at the site. Leash laws apply (sheep
country) to dogs and unruly competitors.
