This is not a great solution, but it might be an improvement: why not put a pump port on the spray skirt? This would be a tube of material, big enough to accept the pump, with a roll-down closure on top like a dry bag. It would be located in the middle of the skirt, about 6-8 inches forward of the body tube. At least, with this rig, the pump could be used without the spray skirt being removed. Concerns about having hands off the paddle still remain. Any comments? It would be easy to build into a nylon skirt, I don't know how hard it would be to put on a neoprene one.
