I dislocated my shoulder yesterday during a rather vigorous high brace recovery on essentially flat water yesterday. It had gone out before about ten years ago on white water but had given me so very little trouble in the interim that I'd essentially forgotten about it. The maneuver that threw it out yesterday was one I've done many times before without trouble and I'm not sure what was different about yesterday. Fortunately I was paddling with two others folks and they were able to reduce it fairly quickly while we were still in our boats. I'm wondering if anyone out there can direct me to info re rehabilitation. It's quite disconcerting to have one's body fail so unexpectedly (and while hanging beneath one's boat at that). I hope to avoid surgery if possible and hunk up sufficiently to keep my shoulder where it belongs. As an ER doctor I've reduced a lot of shoulders but what happens to em after that is beyond me. Any advice?
