|Kevlar was at one time (and still may be) pound for pound the strongest |tensile strength fiber known to man. It is used in bulletproof vests and |chain-saw chaps because if this quality. When I bought chain-saw chaps the salesman told me that the chaps where made of Kevlar. At home I looked at the lable said they were made out of polyester. Chaps are used to protect the user of a chainsaw from an accident. The chaps don't prevent getting cut but hopefully stop further injury by gumming up the chain and stopping the saw engine. Not that it matters if the material is Kevlar or polyester as long as it works! &Diety forbid one is unfortunate enough to have to really USE the chaps. I won't use a chainsaw without chaps.... Kevlar is STRONG. I've seen bullet resistant vests shot with 9mm, 45's and 12 gauge slugs at point blank range. The vest in question had around 30 layers. NONE of the rounds penatrated the first layer. The 12 guage came close but still did not get through. Thanks Matt for the fibergalss and Kevlar education. Its really fasicinating. Hope this helps.
