A symposium, for example, might be a place to get together but at the ones I've been to there's so much else going on that we're not likely to be able to put much time or attention into fellowship. I must admit, I sort of like the idea of a get-together down in warm water country next winter. But, that's next winter; there's not time to pull it together now, and it would be nice to do something this summer. I would also in general support getting together someplace where there's camping. As much as I would like to join Ralph on a paddle out to the Lady, the downside is that it does involve a visit to NYC -- and I really do hate cities. But, it would be interesting to do once. Let's face it -- it's unlikely that we're going to get lots of people from all over the country at any location. NYC is about 700 miles for me, and that's a big weekend. Doable, but barely. But, let's be organized about it, and find out who's interested in this and where the interest is. I'll even volunteer to be the fall guy on this. If you would be interested in attending a late-spring paddlewise get-together within a long-weekend travel distance of where you live, e-mail me personally, back channel to avoid cluttering the list. I want to know: 1. Name. 2. Where you live (in general -- southern Michigan, north Florida, NYC, etc. is close enough). 3. How far a reasonable long-weekend trip would be for you. To keep from dragging this out too long, e-mail me not later than Friday evening, Feb. 11. I'll plot out the responses and see if I can find centers of interest, and should be able to report over the weekend, assuming nothing comes up, like open water. -- Wes (Who's looking forward to meeting some of you.) *************************************************************************** PaddleWise Paddling Mailing List - All postings copyright the author and not to be reproduced outside PaddleWise without author's permission Submissions: paddlewise_at_lists.intelenet.net Subscriptions: paddlewise-request_at_lists.intelenet.net Website: http://www.paddlewise.net/ ***************************************************************************Received on Tue Feb 08 2000 - 19:34:32 PST
