I rented a Current Designs Extreme (standard volume) at
Monterey Bay Kayaks and had the great good luck of two
whales chugging by less than a hundred feet away, about an
hour apart. Too cool. Also a otter sleeping with his little
paws over his eyes to shield them from the sun. Too cute.

Next time I'll portage to Point Lobos (just south of
Carmel); that place is too gorgeous.

The guy who gave me my pre-launch briefing told me the
lanyard didn't work and that I should just put the rudder
down before I went out. Or I could twist around and deploy
it with my paddle. I just left it up; I think skeg would be
better anyway. Guy said the new models had corrected the
problem. So keep that in mind if you're scouting for a used
one.

It was more comfortable than my Caribou, but I am still
working on that back-support issue.
