Here's a couple of url's re whalewatching in the Monterey CA area. http://www.montereybaywhalewatch.com/winsprng.htm http://www.graywhale.org/ Late May is beyond the usual gray whale migration here, but this year has seen a highly unusual visitation of orcas in Monterey Bay. In any case as someone else posted, being at the landward end of a vast underwater canyon, that bay is a very productive aquatic habitat and you can see quite a lot of sea mammals. The Monterey Aquarium is first-rate and well worth a visit before you go out paddling. MBK is a very good kayak outfitter. Also, if you haven't visited here, you might really enjoy driving the (slow) scenic coastal Hiway 1 from SF down to Monterey. Just be sure the driver keeps his eyes on the road, it's a long way down some of those cliffs! I don't recommend it after dark. I will be attending a technical conference in Monterery May 22-25 and likely arriving the weekend before probably via SF, to save on airfare and with luck kayak a bit that weekend. (BIG SNIPO) Also how is May for whale watching? I assume we have a shot at seeing Gray Whales that time of year?" *************************************************************************** PaddleWise Paddling Mailing List - All postings copyright the author and not to be reproduced outside PaddleWise without author's permission Submissions: paddlewise_at_lists.intelenet.net Subscriptions: paddlewise-request_at_lists.intelenet.net Website: http://www.paddlewise.net/ ***************************************************************************Received on Tue Feb 29 2000 - 17:31:10 PST
