Sounds like the most promising direction for the logo.

Also why not work up both a button and a patch? One could choose which
to use.

Reminds me of the story of a company in which the CEO decided that all
employees must wear a corporate logo pin. One day when he was walking
around the office he spotted a Mr. Jones who was not wearing the pin.
Jones, all flustered and stammering, gulped out, "Oh, my gosh, sir, I
must have left it on my pajamas!"

BTW, I think the ideas that are flowing on this are great. However, I
feel it should the final decision should be made by some one of
impeccable artistic taste, specifically Jackie of Ascii Art fame.
Besides, the group is her creation.

I have to agree with Ralph on both of his suggestions. A monochrome logo,
with minimal detail would stand the best chance of widespread use. I don't
know the technical name but the silhouette style logos that are suggestive of
but not overt about the subject seem to be the most effective.

Where do I get some patches? I'll sew them on my winter and summer paddling
hats.

And by pin, do you mean one of those little enameled pins? I love those
things. Where do I get a couple?
