FYI I have been using my Garmin 12MAP without any waterproof case for the past 6 months with no ill effects. I have dozens and dozens of trips with it and no problems. I keep it ina West Marine case and in a deck bag (converted fanny pack). I have had some leakage with earlier models but this one seems to be far more robust...knock,knock,knock.
