This winter has been weird. The ski season ended prematurely to say the least. Thursday at 1 pm it was 21C (70F), Friday at 1 pm it was snowing. I kayaked last Sunday when it was spring-like, but chickened out of paddling today due to the return of winter conditions and me going solo. The pool sessions are suspended while they fix the pumps in the pool, so I can't practice and learn new rolls. I hate it when I can't ski _or_ paddle!!! In a short while, Amie and I are off to Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic for a week (her Christmas present to us). Before telling me that she got us this trip, she pointed out that there was kayaking in Puerto Plata (she knows I'd rather spend the money to kayak someplace like Greenland than visit a spot where fat pink tourists lie in the sun on shiny white melanoma factories by the tropical oceans). I haven't found out anything about kayaking down there. Anyone been? I'm I going to be stuck on a beach SOT or is there a spot I can rent a real kayak? Are there any islands offshore that are a reasonable paddling distance? All info appreciated!
