I have been to Venice a few times in the past year and would really
like to kayak next time I'm over there. Last spring, I saw several
kayakers out and about on the lagoon. In fact, the last issue of
Wooden Boat Builder has an article (1 of 2) on Venetian boats. If you
take a look at the picture of the regatta, you'll see several dozen
kayakers amidst the other boats.

I think that if you stay out of the canals during the day (ie only go
early morning when things are empty), or stick to the lagoon you
should be fine. The island of Torcello has a little canal that runs
from the lagoon all the way down to the main town and church. It is
about a mile and would be great in a 'yak. There are also lots of
other little islands you could visit.

I'll bet there are at least a few boat clubs in the area though it
seems most boating energy goes towards regattas.

When I was last on Lake Como I saw several kayakers. Not too far from
Venice and would be a really beautiful paddle.

I'd love to haul a foldable around Europe. Last time in Paris, I saw
some great four foot standing waves on the Seine that would be great
fun to bust through. Not too much traffic either. Of course, I am
used to barge traffic here on the Mississippi, so my idea of "not
much" may be different.

I'd love to here of other major city paddling that people have
engaged in, or simply dream about.
