Chris Duff finished his New Zealand trip with a presentation at the KASK (Kiwi Association of Sea Kayakers) forum/symposium, Easter, showing slides of his circumnavigation of the South Island of New Zealand. His final episode was to be "rescued" for a second time by helicopter. The final session at the forum was a talk about hypothermia, the showing of equipment and the helicopter by the WestPac Rescue helicopter group. After that we all went down to the estuary and two members waded out. Mandy was rescued twice and Cathye once before the three of the kayaks, checking the effects of the downwash, rafted up. Chris lay across the three boats and the strop was winched down to him, he secured it and was lifted off and deposited on the jetty. During the forum his boat was either on a car, the sea or on display, the scars from the trip plainly visible. NOTE: Chris's first "rescue" in Fiordland was technically a hire operation. Alex . .
