I have been using a GARMIN III for a couple of yeras now and have not had
a problem with rust so far. However I do try not to dunk it. However this
year I have found a really nice and inexpensive accesory from Voyageur -
it is a foam padded, floating, drybag style case for my GPS. I have been
using it all spring and find it does indeed solve the waterproof problem
very nicely. Now if I could find something comparable for my VHF.

I have been looking at the Kajak Sport radio drybag. It will not work with the
larger handheld radios, but they do include an area for the antenna.
Unfortunately they do not show it on their web page, but it is in their
catalog. I have seen one in person in the Country Canoeist (Dunbarton, NH), I
would assume that any of the shops that carry Kajak Sport products would have
some. It might be worth checking out.

Paddling along through fog so thick that only one's thoughts are
visible, your reverie is abruptly shattered by the ancient cry of a great
blue heron as she lifts uncertainly from the brilliant blue of a
mussel-shell beach witnessed only by the brooding, wet spruce....your
passage home seems as much back through time as it does through space.
