It is so easy for a guru like Derrick Hutchinson to convince many of us
that
HEAVY MAKES STRONG. What heavy does is make hernias and bad backs worse and
miserable carries across sandy beaches a torture, especially after a 15-20
mile paddle when all boats pick up an extra 10 pounds, anyway. Chris Duff
might still be paddling his Romany if it had been vacuumed bagged. The
Brits
make some lovely boats and the Romany is certainly one of them but it is
beyond me why the won't lighten up.

As I recall, Chris' Romany split mostly at the seam, and, last I heard, he
was still paddling it after making repairs. Also, fiberglass boats do not
pick up an extra 10 pounds after a long paddle. You must be thinking of
canvas canoes.
