I have been following this discussion. I tend to think longingly for the days when I rarely saw other paddlers on the water. However, the great benefit of the popularity of the sport is the wide range of boat and accessories available today. Much of my equipment in the early 70s including spray skirts was home made. My boat were, by today's standards, inadequate. This availability of directly due to the popularity of the sport. Manufacturers are unwilling to distribute products for, relatively speaking, a handful of buyers.
