Bill,

Two things you may want to try.

Contact the manufacture or a local kayak shop that sells items such as seats
and glass it on yourself (I believe that Pacific Water Sports just south of
Seattle still carries fiberglass seats for home made kayaks) or you could
make a more comfortable seat out of the closed cell foam that's already
there. The numbness is probably due to the shape of the foam as well as its
length. If it is long enough to support at least part of the way down the
thigh, then shape should fix it. You could measure a seat that you both find
comfortable and then cut the foam to the same dimensions. Keep in mind that
closed cell foam doesn't have a lot of give, so if you're off by much it
could still result in that wonderful numb bottom feeling. You could also
make a new one out of fiberglass, but you'll need to make your mold and
determine where you're going to attach it once you've built it.

- good luck - Saul

Subject: [Paddlewise] seats... again

Hi Folks,

I am looking for a prfect seat solution.

The boat is a Necky Arluk II.

We bought this beauty used and a previous owner had pulled the original
seat and cut out a slab of closed cell to fit in the cockpit.
That's all they did. cut it out and no shaping, nothing.
My sig other lasts about fifteen minutes in this otherwise superb boat
before her legs go NUMB!

Can any of you smart paddler types out there suggest a solution? By the
way, she likes to paddle for HOURS usually....
Thanks,
