According to the Garmin website, the eTrex can be submerged to 1 meter for 30 minutes. So, unless you roll really slowly, you _should_ be fine. ;-) I don't have a GPS yet, but I may be getting one soon. --Eric *************************************************************************** PaddleWise Paddling Mailing List - All postings copyright the author and not to be reproduced outside PaddleWise without author's permission Submissions: paddlewise_at_lists.intelenet.net Subscriptions: paddlewise-request_at_lists.intelenet.net Website: http://www.paddlewise.net/ ***************************************************************************

They are used in watches as well and have a totally different meaning when interpreted from a technicians point of view. When they quote that standard and a depth of one meter they are really talking about the pressure equivalent to a depth of one meter of *unmoving water*. Unfortunately in reality water often moves relative to your watch/eTrex, either because the device hits the water while moving through a roll or because a strong gales moves the waves across your deck. In this case the additional impact can easily add pressure (from movemment) that exceed the specified 1 meter-eqivalent. When buying a watch I was told to go for a least 30 meters to be save when swimming on the surface.
