I just finished doing a memorial service for members of the U.S. Coast Guard who have served here in Sitka. Though most died of natural causes over the years a few have died in attempting a rescue. (interestingly just before the serving remembering the end of the lives of many, a new life was beginning. A coast guard chopper had just landed in Sitka with a woman in labor aboard. When the chopper landed the baby was already"crowning" ) I think for all of us who go to sea in our "little boats" might want to pause for a second to remember those who are willing to risk their lives when ours are in peril on the sea.
