There has been discussion on this list and in my local paddling group about the Standard HX 150S being rated as only water resistant or "intermediate" waterproof. My question is where does the claim of it being only "intermediate" waterproof originate? Is there a construction difference between the two models? Is there independent testing to back up this claim? The reason I ask is that the only indication (that I have found) that the 150S is less waterproof than the 350S appears on the product tag found at West Marine. Standard does not claim a difference in waterproofness. Could it be that West Marine's designation of the 150S being only "intermediate" is an attempt to encourage consumers to buy the more expensive model? Or could it be that the intermediate designation is based on an older model? I noticed that Standard's marine product line was sold to the Vertex Radio division of Yaesa USA (http://www.yaesu.com/marine) and they do not list the 350 as a current product. Anybody know what the real story is? And to answer Jack Martin's question, yes, the 150S does have the automatic weather alert feature.
