The first roll I ever tried I made. No joke! I went to a brace and roll class this past winter in a pool. The instructor showed a very smooth and easy c to c roll. I asked her ,"Well what about the sweep?" In my mind I pictured doing a screw roll. Well, any way she showed me how to set up. Then I'd tip over and she held my head while I swept my paddle. Then she went on to the next person and I went off to the deep end of the pool. I set up, tipped over. arranged my paddle underwater, swept and came up with a nice smooth roll. The rest of the night I was doing one roll after another. I admit some of them looked pretty rough but I was real happy with the ones that failed but I stayed in the kayak to setup and roll on the second try. This summer now that I paddle Greenland style exclusively I want to teach myself a repertoire of native rolls and braces....Then I'll ship my kayak over to Greenland for the Greenland championships (just kidding:) Seriously, Rolling is easy. It's a trick. 90% mental and a lot of fun!
